01 Quantity: unit price falls unevenly
Most of the cost is setup and machine start, so 500 pcs do not cost half of 1000 pcs. Sometimes 20% more money buys 100% more product. Always ask for prices at several quantities.
02 Material and finishing
Paper weight, lamination, foiling, UV varnish — every layer adds cost, and impression. A practical rule: invest finishing in what the client holds for a long time (cards, catalogues), not what is discarded in a minute.
03 Format and sheet utilisation
Printing happens on large sheets from which your products are cut. If the format uses the sheet efficiently, you pay less. Sometimes shrinking a product by just 5 mm fits an extra row on the sheet — and the price drops noticeably. Ask whether your format is sheet-friendly.
04 Urgency
Urgency costs money when the production queue must be reshuffled or special delivery arranged. Planning print at least a week ahead makes urgency surcharges practically disappear.
05 Preparation work
If files are print-ready — you pay only for printing. If layout, fixes or rework are needed — that is extra work. Good news: layout cost is one-off and disappears on repeat orders.
